Greenland paddling

Our first Canny Paddlers event was the perfect start for our community. Local paddlers of all levels came to Newbiggin Bay to learn Greenland paddling from Chris Reed, connecting, developing skills, and celebrating the paddling of our region, exactly what Canny Paddlers is all about.

November 2025 Greeland Paddling Course

Greenland Paddling Event with Canny Paddlers & Chris Reed

What a fantastic weekend! The event kicked off with a fascinating talk from Chris about Greenland paddling — exploring paddle designs, sizes, and how to choose the one that suits you best.

We then hit the water for a session on forward paddling and turning, followed by lunch and an inspiring demo of static brace, sculling, and rolling techniques before pairing up to practice.

Day 2 started with a journey on the water, then more time perfecting braces, sculling, and rolling. Everyone made great progress — and had plenty of fun along the way!

Several paddlers went home as new Greenland paddle converts, with a few even picking up their own paddles. And those warm Transpire fleece base layers (with the event discount!) were definitely appreciated in the cold water and wind.

A huge thanks to Chris Reed and everyone who came along — what a brilliant weekend of learning, laughter, and paddling!

Looking forward to seeing Chris again at the Canny Paddlers Sea Kayak Symposium 2026.
